Bylakuppe Namdroling monastery

A arduous  bus journey by bus thru  Kerala KSRTC & Karnataka KSRTC to Bylakuppe, Namdroling monastery

Day 1

Started from Kozhikode – Kalpetta  - Mananthavady  Kutta  is the Kerala – Karnataka border reached at about 4.45pm and waited For the bus to Gonikoppa the rock n roll ride thru the coffee estates reached Gonikoppta at 19.06pm as there was no bus to Kushal Nagar thru  Periyapatna / Siddapura which was the easy route, so  Gonikoppa to Hunsur  - Kushal Nagar reached at 21.30 hrs checked into a modest  Sangeetha lodge with TV ,near to the bus stand booked thru gobibo a room enough for a night stay, lot of lodges / dormitory are available from Bylakuppe / Kushal Nagar.

Day 2

Bylakuppe Namdroling monastery is nearby from Kushalnagar its about 5 km got an auto haggled at fixed at Rs.60 its about 1.3km from the main road the visiting times are from 7 to 6  the main temple is surrounded by small temples prayers started in some of them no entry to temple at prayer time but the sounds of symbols, and flutes are very soothing

The main temple have 60 feet statues of Lord Buddha flanked by Guru Padmasambhava & Buddha Amitayus statues are made of copper plated with gold, try to be there at early morning before the tourists arrive, so you could have a nice view and have a small mediation.

Plan was to visit Dubare elephant camp, so came back to Kushalnagar bus stand to get the bust to Dubare, Virajpet buses are going thru this route so KSRTC info counter informed that was bus was only at 12.30pm so waited for the private bus that too didn’t came so at the bus stop I met a person going to the same direction so by 2 wheeler he dropped me at Dubbare bus stop the elephant camp is about 1.3 km from main road  on the same road you can also visit Kaveri Nisargadhama

So walked upto banks of Kaveri the elephant camp was in an island timings 9 to 11  4:30 to 5.30 as reached late couldn’t go to the camp so returned to the main road, got a bus to Virajpet thru lush paddy fields / coffee from there to Thalassery thru Iritty was nice ride thru forest and reached Thalassery at 5.45 from there got the train to Calicut 

Thalassery – Iritty route is better than Wayanad road
